Hixson Blog

Hi my name is Mackenzie Bartusek.  I am the 2010 Hixson scholar of Mitchell County.  After reading the list I discovered some things that I found were very true and others that I didn't agree with so much, but I guess that is why I'm posting this blog, to tell you what I think about them.
I agree with number two on the list, email is just too slow, and they seldom ever use snail mail. People don't ever send letters unless for some reason they can't get ahold of you through the computer or phone.  It is really sad because a letter is a very personable way to show that you thinking of someone. Number eighteen said, Fergie is a pop singer, not a princess.  I don't really care for her, so i definitely agree with this.  I just think people talk her up too much.  I agree with number thirty-four which said, "Assisted Living” has always been replacing nursing homes, while Hospice has always offered an alternative to the hospital.  My grandpa was in hospice and I know that the people who worked there at the time were very nice to him and they also helped my grandma through the process.  I'm very thankful that they were there to help our family.
I don't agree with number fourty-seven that said, children have always been trying to divorce their parents.  Children never want their parents to get divorced.  It makes everything so much harder for them and I don't think anyone would wish that their parents were divorced.  I also don't agree with number sixty-four that he U.S, Canada, and Mexico have always agreed to trade freely.  I'm sure that not every trade has gone smoothly and I'm sure they sometimes regret trading with eachother.  I don't really care about the other ones on the list, those were just the ones that caught my attention.
The list was definitely very interesting.  I think that the people who put it together already had their own views on the different sentences in the list.  I found that it really made me think about what I personally thought of each one, but there also were some that I didn't think made much since, but that's just me.

  1. Hi! I believe you are confused about the Fergie part. To my understanding, Fergie is a dutchess like actually named Sarah Ferguson. I think that that is who they are referring to in the article and not that Fergie the singer is a princess. I completely agree with your view on children divorcing their parents. I don't think any kinds want their parents to split.

  2. haha yeah i was thinking the same thing as Kali, but i had never heard of the princess until high school anyway, so i dont blame you. and i have no idea why the thing would say kids want their parents to split either.

  3. In my personal experience from being a child fo a divorced family, I never wanted my parents to split up. Looking back now, it was for the best, but I really don't know anyone who would wish that upon themselves or their parents.

  4. I am in the same boat as Anthony. My parents are divorced and I never wished them to be divorced. I hated it when it happened, but like Anthony said now that I look back it was for the best. I dont understand why kids would wish their parents to not be together.

  5. I agree witht the part of email being too slow and snail mail being even slower, but I do agree with you that I wish people hadn't given it up so easily because it is a great way to let people know you are thinking about them.

  6. I agree. Getting an actual LETTER is something WAY more special than a text, call, email, or whatever. That may just be because it's considered uncommon nowadays.
I didn't quite understand what they meant by "children have always been trying to divorce their parents", but I'm thinking that it's not meaning that literally or whatnot, though I'm still unsure . . .

  7. I agree with technology assisted messages being a lot less personal. I swore up and down that I would write letters to my friends and family while here at school but I have yet to write one. I hate to just send a quick blast via email or a thirty second phone call but it's all I have time for.

  8. I agree that getting a letter is more personal than receiving a text message from someone. I also agree that children aren't trying to divorce their parents. It just doesn't make sense to me, it'd be heartbreaking to have your parents divorce.

  9. Hey Mackenzie,

Like you, I too enjoy getting a letter in the mail. I used to work with a girl who is now going to college at BYU in Utah. I told her once that I love getting letters, and it just so happened that she did too. So, we've been writing letters to each other for the past year. Personally, I find letters so much more personal than a text or email. I would prefer a letter over a email any day.

  10. I agree with the letters. I think people should write more letters. It is a really great way to let someone know you care. It is also a bit more "real" when you put something in a letter. It doesn't take much effort to shoot out an electronic form of communication.

  11. I agree with Morgan that a letter grade is more personal then receiving a text, and what kid would want their parents split up.
